Happy 18th Birthday Funky Hannah’s!
Yes, it’s true! 18 years ago, on the busiest shopping day of the year, we opened our doors in downtown Racine. After just a month of ordering and rehabbing space, Funky Hannah’s opened and was greeted with a flurry of bead loving locals who were as happy to be here as we were. Thank you all for that amazing 1st day…and a slew of amazing days since then!
Thank you all for an amazing 18 years!
Congrats to Tara N. for winning the $50 shopping spree at our birthday party!

THANK YOU! Annual Fundraising Jewelry Sale!
Our 2nd Annual Fundraising Jewelry Sale (of jewelry made by you and I ) was a great success! We raised nearly $2000 to help get the talented kids in the Steel Angels steel drum band from Akron, Ohio to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade! Whoo hoo!
Who are the Steel Angels? I was inspired by my friend, Christie Kern – and her pal Angel Lawry.
Angel founded ‘The Steel Academy’ in Akron, Ohio – a school for kids who learn differently. They have an all steel drum band and made a huge impact on us with a performance earlier this year. Christie is always finding ways to help this group, and now I know why. An amazing group of kids and teachers who believe in the gift each person inherently has to offer.
The Angels need another year of fundraising to get to the parade, so the proceeds from our sale will help them get there in 2016. (Learn more about the Steel Academy by clicking here.)
Majestic Pearl Trunk Show! November 20-22
Our friends at Majestic Pearl will be at the store for three full days – November 20, 21 and 22. We’re so excited that they’re coming all the way from the East Coast. Freshwater pearls in every size, shape and color! Tables and tables of luscious pearls will fill a section of our workshop space. (Speaking of which, we’ll have two sessions of the popular Wrap Bracelet for a Free Friday class! Join us at noon or 3pm and learn this great bracelet making technique that looks fabulous with pearls!!!)
As one of the oldest known gems, pearls have been considered the most valuable of gems for centuries. Actually, pearls are gems like none other. They are derived from a living creatures, mollusks, and are essentially organic matter. Because they are so old and precious, pearls are surrounded by traditions and have been used as adornment for centuries.
Pearls become tuned to the phases of the moon. Astrologically they link to the moon. Pearls are sometimes called tear drops of the moon. Other folklore tales say that pearls were born as the heart of oysters when a single rain drop fell from heaven and touched it. Others believed that pearls were formed by when angels passed through heavenly clouds. We even read that pearls were the tears of mermaids! I love that! What we do know is they are beautiful and are said to bestow the wearer with good will and positive, uplifting feallings! Can’t beat that! Come see the treasures this weekend!
