Ascensions ‘Self-Care’ Basket Bracelet Kit Designs & Tips for Creativity!

Posted on November 30th, 2020 in Uncategorized by |

We are happy to support our friends at Ascension All Saints Hospital Foundation and their 12 Days of Giving fundraising event this holiday season.  We added creativity to the ‘Self-Care’ basket in the form of an easy to create stretch bracelet using lava beads–perfect to add essential oils if desired–for an even better self care effect!  For more information about the 12 Days of Giving, visit: https://ascension-wi.regfox.com/12-DAYS-OF-GIVING-WOMENS-HOLIDAY-CELEBRATION

Funky Hannah’s owner, Amanda Cosgrove Paffrath, designed 5 different bracelets.  Packaged with the lava beads separated for easy identification, you can design the bracelet however you’d like given the beads provided in your kit.  If you’d like to mirror what we designed, the photos below should assist you in that!  The bracelets are 7″ by design, but we have included extras of the small beads – so you can add length if you need your bracelet longer and in case you drop a bead!

Never made a stretch bracelet before?  Check out the 3 minute video Amanda made to share some tips & tricks she uses when she creates.

Open Bead Night! First Tuesday of Every Month 6-9pm

Posted on November 30th, 2020 in Uncategorized by |

Our ‘Open Bead Night’ tradition continues!  For 23 years we’ve gathered on the FIRST TUESDAY of every month to create in community, laugh, listen to good music, give advice and support related to our bead work and sometimes life.    We meet (following recommendations of physical distancing & masked) in the glass fusing studio space at Hot Shop Glass, 239 Wisconsin Ave, downtown in Racine.  Park in the convenient neighboring Shoop Parking Ramp.

PLEASE RSVP so we can arrange the space properly.  info@funkyhannahs.com    Thank you.

You asked for it!  Here they are!

Every year we invite the Loose Bead Society of Greater Milwaukee to a private shopping/cocktail/hors d’oeuvres party when they’re in town for their Spring Retreat.   While this year we aren’t doing the shenanigans the same way, we did make our Cuppa Cuppa Cuppa dip for the gang in our Make & Take class.  Here’s a re-post from a few years ago….Tracy took them off my handwritten recipe cards and made them all fancy pants!  Enjoy!

Here are the recipes!

Welcome the Loose Bead Society!

This weekend,  March 5th – 8th, Downtown Racine is thrilled to welcome 60 creative folks from The Loose Bead Society of Greater Milwaukee to our area for the nineteenth (?) year!  The weekend boasts amazing workshops in jewelry making, time to work creatively while enjoying a lovely view of the lake, a marketplace of select vendors and several activities at Hot Shop Glass, glass fusing & glass blowing workshops– plus a pop up bead boutique!

So be ready for the bead ladies downtown Racine!  I’ve already recommended all my favorite restaurants so watch for them!  Say hi & thank them for being on the forefront in seeing the coolness of downtown for an event!

Current Store Location Closed

Posted on November 19th, 2019 in News by |

Our current store location closed at the end of June.

The neighboring business, Plumb Gold, wants to expand and purchased our building May 1st.

We will keep everyone posted on what’s next. We’ve got some fun ideas!

  • In the meantime…
  • Open bead night will continue, the first Tuesday of every month from 6-9pm. Locations will be ‘pop ups’ and posted on our website and facebook page.
  • We will continue to do shows and our retreats.
  • We will be at the Milwaukee Bead Show in October and host our October Bead Camp at DeKoven the 18th -20th .

We are very excited for Austin and his team at Plumb Gold as they expand their business and reunite our buildings back to one ownership like when it was built in the 1860’s!

THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING PART OF THE FUNKY HANNAH’S EXPERIENCE!  Stay tuned for what’s next!!!

She looks like she’s resting, but she’s dreaming up what’s next! Stay tuned!

FALL BEAD CAMP – October 18-20, 2019

Posted on September 4th, 2019 in Bead Camp by |

Bead Camp is an amazing weekend retreat housed within the former Racine college, circa 1867, just 30 miles south of Milwaukee and 70 miles north of Chicago. With beautiful views on the shore of Lake Michigan, our retreat center is filled with antiques, history and charm… this all inclusive weekend is 48+ hours of creative fun you won’t want to miss.

We have a lovely, light filled bead room, meals and lodging all under the same roof… bring new projects, old projects, and shop in our pop up boutique in the library, including a trunk show of beads from our friends at Cherry Tree Beads. Don’t miss our massage therapist for a little hand and shoulder TLC!

This is our 21st retreat and we know how to host a fabulous creative weekend!  Fun people from seven states have made the pilgrimage to a Funky Bead Camp and many locals do too!  It’s a getaway no matter how near or far!

We laugh a lot, cheer each other on and end the weekend with new friends and memories.

Open til 9pm May 3rd – It’s First Friday !

Posted on May 1st, 2019 in Events, First Fridays, Shopping by |

Be sure to pop in at Funky Hannah’s, 324 Main Street, check out the latest ready made jewelry or be inspired to take a workshop.  Artists will be at the torch in the workshop space, demonstrating how fun it is to make glass beads, from 5-9pm.

All of the fun shops, galleries & museums are open late for the First Friday of every month.

While you are here, be sure to head around the corner  so you don’t miss the hottest spot during First Fridays – Hot Shop Glass, 239 Wisconsin Avenue.  Watch local artisans turn molten glass into something fabulous right before your eyes.  April showers bring May flowers so the gallery is filled with lovely glass inspired by and useful for flowers.  Paperweights, sculpted flowers, vases and wine tumblers will be made with floral themes during demonstrations from 4-8:30pm.
